Inflation is Slowing
World and Country Group CPI Aggregates, July 2025
(Contributors: Ragnhild Nygaard and Abdulrahman Gweder)
Global inflation, measured as the 12-month change in consumer prices across all economies, slowed to 3.5 percent in July 2025, down from 3.8 percent in May, and 3.7 percent in June. This marks a continued decline from its peak of 9.6 percent in September 2022.
Across the regions, inflation rates have either declined or leveled off. Africa, which continues to bear the highest inflation rates, has seen the year’s most significant decline, from 14.4 percent in January to 8.9 percent by July. In the Americas, the inflation rate declined from 4.6 percent at the start of the year to 3.4 percent in July. Meanwhile, in Asia inflation eased further to 2.8 percent in July.
By economic classification, inflation in Advanced Economies has remained fairly stable through 2025, around 2.5 percent, while in Emerging Market and Developing Economies it continued to subside, from 6.6 percent at the end of 2024 to 4.0 percent in July.
Notes: The aggregated annual inflation is calculated using a geometrically weighted average of officially disseminated indexes, with annual PPP-adjusted GDP lagged by one year as weights.
