IMF Data Brief: Industrial Production

Global Industrial Production Rose Modestly in June 2026

Production Indexes, World and Country Group Aggregates, June 2026

Contributors: Abdulrahman Gweder and Anthony Silungwe

Global industrial production turned slightly positive, after contracting in April amidst regional conflicts. Global IP declined by 0.3 percent month-on-month in April, and then increased by 0.1 percent in May and 0.2 percent in June 2026. Both Advanced economies and Emerging Markets and Developing Economies contributed equally (0.1 percentage points) to global growth.

Within the Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs) performance was mixed. The Middle East and Central Asia rebounded from a 6.5 percent contraction in April to growth of 1.8 percent in May and 1.0 percent in June. In contrast, Latin America and the Caribbean contracted in both May and June, by 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively. While Emerging and Developing Asia remained unchanged for a third month consecutively.

Year-on-year results show a continued global expansion but a moderation in its pace. Global IP growth slowed down from 4.6 percent in April to 4.0 percent in May and 3.6 percent in June. This slowdown primarily reflected easing growth in EMDEs and the negative growth in the Middle East and Central Asia during the last three months.

Notes: Seasonally adjusted World and Country Group Aggregate estimates are based on a sample of 118 economies that disseminate an Industrial Production (IP) index. Country Group Aggregates are based on WEO classification.
