IMF Data Brief: Production Indexes

World Industrial Production Increased 0.9 Percent in February 2025

Production Indexes, World and Country Group Aggregates, February 2025

(Contributors: Anthony Silungwe and Arushi Kapoor)

World Industrial Production increased 0.9 percent month-on-month in February 2025, following a 0.1 percent decline in January 2025. Industrial production in Emerging Market and Developing Economies (EMDEs) (+1.4 percent) continued to outpace Advanced Economies (AEs) (+0.8 percent). In the EMDEs, growth was driven by a recovery in Emerging and Developing Asia, which increased 1.4 percent in February after a 0.3 percent decline in January. Latin America and the Caribbean increased 0.6 percent, ending two consecutive months of decreases. In contrast, industrial production in February declined in Emerging and Developing Europe (-0.2 percent) and Sub-Saharan Africa (-1.5 percent).

Most economies reported that growth accelerated in February, with a notable difference between AEs and EMDEs. Over 60 percent of AEs registered accelerating growth, whereas the same was achieved in less than 50 percent of EMDEs.

Year-on-year, World Industrial Production increased by 3.7 percent in February, an acceleration from January’s growth (3.0 percent). Both AEs and EMDEs recorded growth.

Notes: Seasonally adjusted World and Country Group Aggregate estimates are based on a sample of 118 economies that disseminate an Industrial Production index. Country Group Aggregates are based on WEO classification.
