IMF Data Brief: Industrial Production
Global Production Remains Strong Heading into 2025 Q4
Production Indexes, World and Country Group Aggregates, October 2025
Contributors: Anthony Silungwe and Arushi Kapoor
Global factories remained busy in October, with worldwide industrial output rising by 0.2 percent in October 2025. The increase broadly matches the steady pace seen in recent months, suggesting that manufacturing activity continues to expand gradually rather than surge or stall.
Activity in emerging markets and developing economies continued to outpace that of advanced economies in 2025. Demand for goods produced in emerging markets has been particularly strong, pushing industrial output steadily higher throughout the year. By October, factory output in emerging markets had increased 3.1% (October 2025 compared to December 2024), marking a clear advance over the course of the year. In comparison, production in advanced economies grew 1.3% (October 2025 compared to December 2024). Emerging markets continue to be the primary driver of global industrial growth in 2025 as they have been for the last several years.
Looking at the year as a whole, if November and December 2025 come in at the 2025 monthly average, 2025 is shaping up to be a stronger year for global factory output than 2024. Worldwide industrial production has risen more quickly this year, mainly due to positive growth across advanced economies. In 2024, industrial production across advanced economies declined 1.1.%.

Notes: Seasonally adjusted World and Country Group Aggregate estimates are based on a sample of 118 economies that disseminate an Industrial Production (IP) index. Country Group Aggregates are based on WEO classification.
