Global Merchandise Exports Decreased in February 2025 Due to Reduced Exports from Emerging Market and Developing Economies

Seasonally adjusted global merchandise exports declined by 0.5 percent month-on-month in February 2025, following an increase of 2.3 percent in January (revised). This decrease was driven by a 2.5 percent drop in exports from Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDE), which subtracted 1.1 percentage points from the overall change. In contrast, exports from Advanced Economies rose by 1.2 percent.
Exports from Emerging and Developing Asia fell by 1.7 percent, contributing -0.4 percentage point to the global change. Exports also weakened from the Middle East and Central Asia (-3.8 percent) and Latin America and the Caribbean (-3.3 percent). Exports from Sub-Saharan Africa plummeted 10.4 percent, contributing -0.2 percentage point to the global change. Exports from Emerging and Developing Europe decreased by 0.7 percent, with marginal impact on the overall change.
Year-over-year, exports increased 3.1 percent in February 2025. Exports from Advanced Economies rose by 5.1 percent, while EMDEs experienced a more modest growth of 0.6 percent.
